Exchange that began with one student

The German Academic Exchange Service funds the international exchange of students and researchers.

A student’s idea

The DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) was founded in Heidelberg in 1925 on the initiative of a single student. Today it is based in Bonn and describes itself as one of the most important funding organisations in the world for the international exchange of students and researchers.

Who it is for

The DAAD’s own website lists its current scholarship programmes. Because conditions and deadlines change, we point to it rather than repeat them here.

Researchers after the doctorate

For researchers who already hold a doctorate, the main German programme for coming to Germany is run by another Bonn organisation, described on Fellowships for researchers from anywhere.
